Practicum
VPC is committed to developing our students' personal and
practical skills necessary in providing superior customer care. As part of
your training, you will be placed in Vancouver hospitality industry for a
part-time practicum complementing your classroom studies.
During the first semester, practicum candidates will attend several
meetings to prepare for the placement. Upon completion of their first
semester of studies, students will be assessed on various criteria to ensure
that they are suitable as a practicum candidate*.
*Vancouver Premier College of Hotel Management reserves
the right to refuse a practicum placement.
Students may be working in a restaurant, in the rooms division or in the sales and marketing departments of a hotel. During the practicum, students will have the opportunity to meet with the Practicum Coordinator to discuss any difficulties and to develop strategies to grow on the job. Students who are on a practicum DURING their studies will also participate in group discussions to share their experiences with other students.
Employers of Diploma Practicum students typically require 6-8 hours a week from the student, so candidates need to arrange their personal schedules accordingly. Certificate students may do a full-time practicum for 3-5 weeks upon completion of studies. Certificate students should arrange to stay in Vancouver an additional 9 weeks after their courses are completed, as placement may not be available immediately after the studies conclude.
