New English Plus Marine Conservation Program at GV Victoria

Starting in August 2005, Global Village Victoria is pleased to announce a new English Plus Marine Conservation course that will provide students with an outstanding English experience PLUS direct exposure to and instruction on some of the best marine biology in North America.
The English Plus Marine Conservation course combines the luxury of beautiful Victoria lifestyle as well as the excitement of the amazing and very unique marine biology of Vancouver Island.

The program is led by GV Staff with environmental conservation and biology background and features special guest lectures by leading experts from local aquarium and research centres. The program is offered in conjunction with full time enrollment in the GEP program at Victoria and includes the additional highlights:

 
Week 1: Fish and Marine Mammals
- Discussion of the effects of marine mammal and human interaction.
- Dive at Ogden Point (http://www.divevictoria.com)
- 4.5 hours of instruction on local fish including wolf eels, nudibranches octopus and "6 gill" sharks.
Week 2: Intro to Tidal Pools
- Trip to Botanical Beach (http://www.portrenfrew.com/botbeach.htm)
- 4.5 hours of instruction on the highlights of Vancouver Island marine biology and conservation challenges.
Week 3: Local Marine Ecology (Flora and Fauna)
- Marine Ecology Centre seminar.
- Race Rocks dive or snorkel trip.
- 4.5 hours of instruction.
Week 4: Marine Shore Birds
- Whale watching excursion.
- 4.5 hours of instruction on identifying local seabirds through their calls and flight patterns as well as visiting Orcas in their natural habitat

We believe that this program will provide an exciting opportunity to combine english learning while enjoying the unique and world class marine environment of Vancouver Island.
