Koh Chang

Koh Chang is a beautiful destination with long sandy beaches and a jungle interior. It is part of the Koh Chang national park in Trat province close to Cambodia and can be reached within a day from Bangkok. Buses leave regularly from Ekamai bus station (The eastern bus Terminal) in Bangkok and take around 5 hours to reach Trat town in itself an interesting town with lots of trade between the neighboring countries. A songthaew from Trat town to Laem Ngop on the coast takes around 20 minutes and from here it is around a one and a half hour boat ride to Koh Chang proper.

The most popular beach is White sands ( Had sai cow) which has a lovely long stretch of beach and a shallow sea. Be careful of jelly fish in the wet season especially the dangerous Mangaproon fire. Cheap bungalows abound on this beach.

The next beach along Ao Khlong Phroe is also very beautiful with more up market bungalows. A word of caution; be careful what you bring back from Koh Chang as it is not uncommon for tourists to be searched by police when returning to Ekamai bus station.
